Lang is the President of Numeric Investors LLC*. Prior to founding Numeric in 1989, he was employed as a portfolio manager, quantitative analyst, and Vice President in the Asset Management Division of State Street Bank & Trust Company. While at State Street, he conceived and developed the firm's Matrix Synthesis investment strategy which combines quantitative valuation and earnings estimate revision stock selection techniques.

Hugh joined the Global Emerging Markets team at WestLB Mellon Asset Management (WMAM) as an asset manager at its inception in 1998 and was promoted to team head in September 2004. Prior to joining WMAM, Hugh worked for LGT Asset Management and Baring Asset Management as Head of Quantitative Research and Strategy. He has over twenty one years of investment management experience.
